THE LAKES ON 8TH STREET
Project Brief:
For my senior project I will be designing a high end hotel located in the heart of Minneapolis, MN. The hotel will also have a connecting restaurant and other amenities including meeting rooms, lounge, gym/spa, rooftop patio and hot tub. It will allow guests to experience a relaxing stay being all needed food, activities, and meeting spaces are included on site.
Design Statement:
The overall design of the hotel seeks to provide a luxurious modern retreat by combining both modern and minimalistic design styles. Incorporating natural wood tones, neutral colors, soft textures and touches of blue and green resemble the calming nature Minnesota has to offer. The use of brass and other metals, intriguing light fixtures, tinted glass and arched windows resemble the night life and architecture found in the downtown area. The simple linear layout helps to provide clear way finding and ensure accessibility for all guests. All guest rooms will include a large window as the view of the city and natural light is highly important to the guest room design.
Programmatic Statement:
The goal of The Lakes Hotel is to provide a luxury style retreat for guests visiting the Minneapolis, MN area. The hotel’s wide range of amenities will provide guests with a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The balance between relaxation and socializing represents the calmness of the many Minnesota lakes and the nightlife the city has to offer. Dim lighting will create interest in the common spaces and bring both a sophisticated and romantic feel to the restaurant. The overall design will reflect a sleek and modern style by using textures and colors found in the historical architecture of downtown Minneapolis.
